How to close NSC account in post office online
Closing a National Savings Certificate (NSC) online is done through the India Post Internet Banking service. The matured amount is credited to your linked POSA (Post Office Savings Account).
Steps to Close NSC Online
- Login: Log in to the India Post eBanking portal using your customer ID and password.
- Navigate to Service Requests: Under the ‘General Services’ section, click on ‘Service Requests’.
- Initiate Closure: Select ‘New Requests’ and then choose ‘Closure of NSC Account’.
- Select NSC: Select the specific NSC account you wish to close.
- Select Savings Account: Select your linked POSA account for the maturity proceeds to be credited.
- Submit: Enter your transaction password and submit the application.
- Download Receipt: After successful completion, download the closure receipt.
Key Things to Know
- Eligibility: Only NSCs purchased on or after 01.07.2015 (in passbook form) can be closed online.
- Validity: The online facility is for maturity; for premature closure (allowed under specific conditions, generally after one year), you may need to visit the post office.
- Account Linkage: You must have a Post Office Savings Account linked to your net banking to receive the funds online.
